Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I park? There are several parking lots and street parking near Hammer & Stain. The lot across the street at BMO Harris bank is available after 5pm and on weekends. There is also a Public parking lot on University Avenue next to the fire station.

Can I bring a friend with me if they are not working on a project? Unfortunately, because of a limited amount of seating and fire code, we are unable to admit any person who has not reserved a spot in our workshop.
Can I make more than one project at a workshop? Because of time constraints and the nature of how our DIY workshops run, we typically limit each person to one project at a time during a scheduled workshop. However some finish early, and are welcome to purchase a project in-stock at the shop. We are always adding more dates and workshop projects, please check back with us often to schedule!
What are the prices for a workshop? Prices for each workshop are based on the type of workshop being offered. Typically, prices range in price from $40 to $75 depending on the options you choose. Larger projects such as sleighs and beanbag/cornhole boards range from $75 to $195.

Do I have to pick my project ahead of time? Yes. Project selection and customization information for your project is required at the time of booking on our on-line registration form. Please be sure to double-check your spelling and information to ensure your project stencil (for wood workshops) and materials will be ready for you at the start of your workshop.

Do you offer refunds? Due to the custom nature of our workshops, registration fees are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend, and provide us more than 48 hours notice, you may receive a credit to make your project at a future public workshop within 6 months. Unused credits will expire after 6 months.

What if I can't attend the event as planned? Let us know at least 48 hours in advance and we are happy to reschedule you to a public event or prepare a home kit when appropriate. If you are unable to reschedule your attendance within 30 days, you will receive a credit towards a future event (minus a 30% restocking fee). We do not issue cash refunds for workshops.

Do I need to tell you in advance what colors and stain I want to use on a wood project?   No, we have a wide variety of paint colors and stains to choose from in the shop. When you arrive we will show you examples of different color palettes to help you decide which paints and stains will look the best in your home.

How long does a workshop last? The length of each workshop depends on the type of workshop scheduled. The typical workshop lasts 2-3 hours.

Do I need to be crafty or artistically talented to take a workshop? Definitely NOT! Our workshops provide guided instruction in a relaxed environment. Just bring your DIY attitude and a willingness to learn and you will create a project you will be proud of!

Can I bring my own snacks or food? Due to COVID restrictions we are not allowing communal food sharing at this time. Small personal snacks are permitted.

Can I bring my own beer or wine? Because Wisconsin is a not a BYOB state, customers may not bring in alcoholic beverages. However, the studio is licensed and sells a variety of beer, wine, hard soda and liquors for mimosas and bloody marys.

How do I make sure I am seated with my friends? If you are coming with a group of friends, please list who you would like to be seated next to in the "comments section" of the online reservation form, or send an email to let us know who is in your group.
